Days 11 & 12 - 7/1 & 7/2
Day 11 and 12 were the most difficult so far with regard to riding. Long hills, headwinds, and no good scenery. Animals have disappeared except for the flies. Fort Nelson must be the LARGE fly capital of the world. Since I had plenty of time, I made a study of their habits. If I go 15 miles an hour or less, which I frequently do, the flies can swarm around me - buzzing in my face and helmet. They don't bite. They are just annoying. At 17 miles an hour, they cannot keep up, so I lose them on the flats and downhill. They like the RV as well.

Days 11 & 12
Yesterday we passed a biker on the road and then met him later at the rest stop. He is a Korean who is biking from Whitehorse to Argentina. He plans to be there in about a year and a half. He is traveling alone, sleeping in a tent and smoking cigarettes - wanted to ask more questions about what was in his mind but his English was not that good and we have no Korean language skills.

Days 11 & 12
We did not see a Sasquatch but saw a sign for them.

Days 13 & 14 - 7/3 & 7/4
Now that I am almost done with the Alaska Highway, I have a few thoughts about this portion of the bike ride. I am glad I did it. I am not sure I would like to do it again or recommend it to anyone else - especially at this pace.
The scenery from Fort Nelson to mile 0 is unremarkable as mentioned. The people we have met along the way have been fun and interesting. Most of them want to tell their story and are not interested in mine. So, Marjie and I have decided to be good listeners. Occasionally people are interested in talking about cancer prevention but this has not been a big part of the trip.
Drivers along the road have been universally courteous to the bicycle and the RV, especially the truckers - no beeping horns, no obscene gestures or the like. We hope it continues.
